In honor of Memorial Day, the historic Butler House in Deerfiled Beach put on a nice ceremony for the community. I covered the event for the Sun-Sentinel and was pleasantly surprised when I saw one of the shots ran in the Chicago Tribune as well. Nice to see my name in cahoots with the old rag again. Here are some of the shots from the day.
In an annual ceremony called the Ride of Silence, cyclists took to the road in Fort Lauderdale for a silent procession to honor fellow riders who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. It was a bit sobering to hear all the stories of people who have been hit by a car while riding in South Florida, nearly everyone that I talked to had a story about a run in. In fact, some people were riding for the first time since being hospitalized after bike vs car accidents. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn’t aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves. Here are some photos I took for the Sun Sentinel of the procession.
